At 2pm on Sunday, August 14, our pastor, Msgr. Cuong Pham and a group of parishioners will represent our parish at the Solemn Mass marking the 200th Anniversary of St. James Cathedral Basilica in Brooklyn, the Mother Church of our Diocese. Bishop Robert Brennan will preside, joined by Cardinal Dolan of New York and Bishop Barres of Rockville Centre. You may follow this special event on the diocesan channel, THE NET and over the internet.
Monday, August 15, is the Solemnity of the Assumption. Since it is NOT a Holy Day of Obligation this year, there will NOT be an evening Mass. However, the two usual Masses at 8AM and 12 Noon will be celebrated solemnly in the Upper Church. We invite all to attend as a way to honor Our Lady on this beautiful feast.
Next Saturday, August 20, from 1PM to 4:30PM, our Vocation Committee is sponsoring a special event for all boys and girls ages 12 to 17. This event will begin with a Holy Hour of Adoration, with Reflection and Benediction by Father Chris Bethge, Diocesan Vocations Director, followed by lunch and a discussion on the theme of “Mutual Respect – We Are Wonderfully Made,” and sports activities. Please encourage your children to participate.
Our parish is in great need of faithful people, both men & women, to serve as ushers at the English Sunday Masses. As the first faces that people see when they enter the church, ushers serve as ministers of welcome and hospitality. If you wish to enhance the quality of our Sunday Mass by volunteering your service as an usher, please leave your name and number at the parish office, or speak to one of our priests.
The deadline to register children for our Religious Education Program this fall is quickly approaching. All children who have not made their sacraments must receive religious instruction. Please contact our parish office to register your child as soon as possible.
We are happy to report that, to date, 181 parishioners have pledged a total of $63,087 to the Annual Catholic Appeal, of which $54,226 have already been collected. We thank those who have donated and invite all to consider joining us to support our local Church. Donation envelopes are available at the church entrances for your convenience.
