Dear friends in Christ,
As we welcome the dawn of a New Year, I extend to each of you my warmest congratulations and prayers for a Blessed New Year, rich with God’s abundant blessings. Reflecting on the past year, with all its challenges and uncertainties—including the complexities of the presidential election—we are reminded of the steadfast presence of Emmanuel, “God with us.” It is in His presence that we find the courage to embrace the future with hope, gratitude, and joy.
This sacred season of Christmas reminds us that God’s love transcends all boundaries, uniting us as one family in faith. Christmas is not just a day; it is a season of rejoicing that continues through the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, celebrated this year on Sunday, January 12, 2025. During this time, we are invited to meditate on the gift of God’s abiding presence in our lives. With Jesus by our side, we can face every uncertainty, confident in His promise to be our light and peace.
As we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family this Sunday, we are called to reflect on the profound importance of family. For so many of us, Christmas is a time when loved ones gather, hearts soften, and the spirit of reconciliation and kindness unites us. In the Holy Family of Mary, Joseph, and the Christ Child, we see the perfect example of a family grounded in faith, love, and obedience to God’s will. No matter the trials we face, may each of our families strive to reflect this divine model: places where love reigns, faith thrives, and God’s presence is tangibly felt.
The family is not just a haven for personal comfort but also a place where the seeds of faith and holiness are sown. In a world that often feels divided, our families can become beacons of unity and understanding. As we carry forward the spirit of Christmas, let us encourage one another to build homes that reflect the love, forgiveness, and generosity of Christ.
This truth extends beyond our individual households to our parish family here at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. We are a diverse and vibrant community, enriched by our many cultures, languages, and traditions, yet united by our shared faith in Christ. Let us pray that in this New Year, our parish becomes an even greater beacon of God’s love. May we strengthen the bonds of fellowship, embrace one another’s unique gifts, and walk together on the path to holiness. In doing so, we truly become the face of Emmanuel-Jesus Christ to one another and to the world.
Our parish thrives when we each contribute our unique gifts and talents to its life. From our liturgical celebrations to our outreach programs and moments of personal prayer, we are called to be active participants in this family of faith. Let this year be one where we deepen our commitment to serving one another, where we listen more attentively to each other’s needs, and where we find joy in working together for the glory of God. Together, we can make Our Lady of Mount Carmel a place of welcome, healing, and hope for all who come through its doors.
As Pope Francis reminds us, we live in a time of great challenges—challenges that threaten humanity and creation itself. Yet even in the face of such trials, we are called to look forward with hope. This hope is rooted in God’s infinite mercy. By accepting His forgiveness and grace, we rediscover our shared identity as children of the same loving Father and as brothers and sisters walking together in peace. May this truth inspire us to be instruments of reconciliation, unity, and love in our homes, our parish, and the wider world.
With the joy of Christ’s birth still fresh in our hearts, let us step into 2025 with renewed faith and love. Together, may we build a future filled with hope and grace. May this New Year bring peace to every heart, joy to every family, and blessings to our entire community.
