Our Lady of Mount Carmel was so proud to celebrate Father Joe's 30th anniversary of outstanding service to our parish on Saturday, June 16, 2012! Our fourth annual procession in honor of Corpus Christi on Sunday, June 10, 2012 took place. Approximately 200 parishioners joined our Pastor, Msgr. Sean G. Ogle, Rev. Ed Brady and Deacon Manuel Barahona as we celebrated benediction at three altars. The Italian Society, Vietnamese Apostolate and the Spanish Community each prepared an altar in their respective language. We walked the four blocks around the church saying a Rosary in English, Italian and Spanish and concluded the procession with benediction on the main Altar of the church. Our Lady of Mount Carmel is one of three parishes in the Diocese of Brooklyn to welcome the Pastoral Institute's Lay Ministry Program. We will be home to close to 50 people for three years of study until they are commissioned as lay leaders to serve a number of parishes in the Diocese. We are very happy to congratulate both our English and Spanish Groups who have completed the first of the three year program.
The mission statement of the Pastoral Institute:
Affirming the baptismal call of women and men to serve the Diocese of Brooklyn, the Pastoral Institute sponsors the Lay Ministry Program. An integrated process of education and formation prepares participants for their roles as pastoral leaders and ministers for the New Evangelization.
